"Mi formación general es en humanidades. Me gradué en 1994 de Licenciatura en Historia del Arte, en la Facultad de Artes y Letras, en el curso nocturno. Cuando decidí aprender fotografía, en La Habana de mediados de los ochenta, no había muchas escuelas disponibles, solamente recuerdo la de la Unión de Periodistas de Cuba, la UPEC. En esa época, tenías que buscarte un amigo que te enseñara los fundamentos y luego seguir por tu cuenta. Y entonces te ibas a su estudio o a su laboratorio, y ahí aprendías con tu maestro, al estilo renacentista (...)"
